Courses

Course description:Short, Medium, Long and Junior Sprint courses available. The longer courses (not the Junior Sprint) will have route choices which may include busy roads and roads with limited pavements in some places. Participants must take extra care for road traffic when running on roads where there is limited to no pavement, and not take undue risk when crossing, particularly on blind corners or busy roads. On the Long & Medium courses there will be at least one-timed out mandatory crossing (1 minute) and all the longer courses (L, M & S) will have non- Juniors (under 16) can only run unaccompanied on the Junior Sprint course. Young Juniors (U12): It is recommended that Juniors under 12 are still accompanied by an adult on the Junior Sprint course – as this course will involve minor cul-de-sacs where they could encounter cars. The Junior Sprint will also involve moving on pavements alongside roads, but no busy roads should require crossing to get between controls. All courses will start at Stoke Bishop School. The 3 longer courses will all finish with a mini sprint in the school grounds using the larger scale Map#1. The Short course should also be suitable for adult beginners. The Junior Sprint, as the name suggests, should be suitable for Juniors, and families, with little or no prior experience of orienteering but a willingness to come along and have a go at the sport. A sense of direction is advisable or failing that, an ability to use a compass.
